Dr. Ramón Cacabelos

Dr. Ramón Cacabelos (Cambados, 1955) is one of our most distinguished international scientists in the field of Neurosciences, Genomic Medicine and Pharmacogenetics of Central Nervous System diseases.

Biography

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oviedo. He forged his professional career in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Osaka (Japan), where he specialized in Neuropsychiatry and obtained a Doctorate in Medical Sciences (Internal Medicine and Psychiatry) (D.M.Sci). He has a second doctorate in Medicine and Surgery (Ph.D.) from the University of Santiago de Compostela, where he was Professor of Psychiatry after his return to Spain. Subsequently, he obtained by competitive examination the position of Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid.

He voluntarily left his life position at the Complutense to found EuroEspes and create the first Institute for Diseases of the Central Nervous System, which later became the EuroEspes Biomedical Research Center, the current headquarters of the International Center for Neurosciences and Genomic Medicine in A Coruña.

He was appointed the first Professor of Genomic Medicine in Europe at the Camilo José Cela University in Madrid, where he also served as Vice-Rector for Research and Science. He founded the Spanish Society of Genomic Medicine, the World Association of Genomic Medicine and the Spanish Association of Medical Nutraceutics. In his long scientific career he directed hundreds of national and international research projects, collaborating with leading Asian, European and American scientists, such as Prof. Tsuyoshi Nishimura, Masatoshi Takeda, Hiroshi Wada, Takehiko Watanabe, Atsushi Yamatodani and Hiroyuki Fukui in Japan, Prof. Bengt Winblad from Karolinska Institute in Sweden, Prof. Alen Roses from North Carolina (USA), Prof. John Pearson from New York, Prof. Dmitry Goldgaber from New York, Prof. Dmitry Goldgaber from Stony Brook, New York (USA) and others; he has more than 2000 publications and 30 books; he is a member of a hundred scientific and medical societies, referee of hundreds of international scientific journals, Editor-in-Chief of more than 20 national and international medical and scientific journals, and editor of the first world guide to pharmacogenomics(World Guide for Drug Use and Pharmacogenomics)(EuroEspes Publishing Co., 2012) and the first treatise on Pharmacoepigenetics(Pharmacoepigenetics)(Academic Press/Elsevier, 2019).

His medical activity, as Director of the International Center for Neurosciences and Genomic Medicine in Spain, and his corporate responsibilities, as President of the EuroEspes Group, are combined with his attention to his Chair of Genomic Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the Continental University in Peru and his scientific work as Professor at the Sechenov University in Moscow.
