Neuro-Ophthalmology

A window into the brain to diagnose disease.

The eye is a complex structure in intimate relationship with the brain, connected by the optic nerve. This "window" to the brain is also a window to the organism: through an eye examination we can diagnose diseases as diverse as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, tumors, systemic infections...

The study of the optic nerve allows the diagnosis and stratification of many neurological diseases, from multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, dementia... tests such as campimetry, Heidelberg tomography or visual evoked potentials allow us to know the state of the neurons of the optic nerve and, therefore, of the central nervous system as a whole.

Genetics

We incorporate multiple genetic studies, whose most characteristic pathologies include optic atrophies, glaucoma and macular degeneration. In these diseases, screening and early detection are vital to avoid future complications and genetics is the main working tool.
