Neuro-Ophthalmology

A window into the brain to diagnose disease.

The eye is a complex structure in an intimate relationship with the brain, connected by the optic nerve. This "window" to the brain is also a window to the body: through an eye examination we can diagnose diseases as diverse as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, tumours, systemic infections...

The study of the optic nerve makes it possible to diagnose and classify many neurological diseases, from multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, dementia, etc. Tests such as campimetry, Heidelberg tomography or visual evoked potentials provide information on the state of the neurons of the optic nerve and, therefore, of the whole central nervous system.

Genetics

We incorporate multiple genetic studies, whose most characteristic pathologies include optic atrophies, glaucoma and macular degeneration. In these, screening and early detection are vital to avoid future complications and genetics is the main working tool.
