Diseases of the Nervous System

Diseases of the nervous system are the world's third biggest health problem, behind cardiovascular diseases and cancer. However, the enormous variety of problems that can affect our brain is such that practically more than 98% of the population has suffered from a brain problem in their lifetime.

Another fundamental aspect of nervous system diseases is their highly disabling component, in terms of quality of life, loss of work hours, damage to self-esteem, psychological stigmatisation, social isolation, and compromise of our dignity as individuals.

Most brain diseases require long-term treatment with medications that often have side effects that can affect people's lives, increasing their vulnerability to other pathologies.

Only 20-30% of available treatments are effective. In 60% of cases, pharmacological treatment is inefficient; in 20%, it is ineffective; in 30-40%, it causes toxicity.

Most of the adverse effects of medication can be avoided with personalised pharmacological treatment, based on the pharmacogenetic profile of each patient.

Diseases of the nervous system are nowadays the main health problem in advanced societies. The best way to tackle them is with Personalised Medicine that:

  • anticipates risk with Predictive Programmes
  • increases early diagnostic accuracy with Genomic Diagnostics
  • personalises pharmacological treatment with individual pharmacogenetic strategies
  • optimises available resources, reduces unnecessary costs, and substantially improves people's quality of life.

Our Prevention Plans allow us to identify prevalent diseases in pre-symptomatic or early stages and to intervene prophylactically so that they do not manifest themselves, delay their onset, or can be subject to an effective therapeutic intervention with personalised protocols of individual pharmacogenetics.
